One of my two favorite things in the world, airplanes and cameras. Here’s some latest Canon C300 footage. The Canon C300 is Canon entry level into serious cinema. I would love to get my hands on one of these and take it for a test ride! Please check out this beatifically shot piece.

Timelapse from my room in San Francisco

Recently I attended the HOW Interactive Conference in San Francisco. It was my first time in the Bay Area and I loved it. The conference was really cool but the city was something else. I wanted to test out my iPad’s camera for some timelapse. It was ok. The image quality is not that great, but it was just for fun.

San Francisco is something else, really enjoyed the architecture and the night life. Can’t wait to go back.

Red Tails – A Lucasfilm movie

One of my favorite DOP is Philip Bloom, I think he and Vince Laforet started the whole DSLR craze. Well, who would think George Lucas would have approved a $2500 camera for his new movie, Red Tails, a movie about the Tuskegee airman during WW2. Now I’m a huge WW2 buff and aircraft enthusiast, so naturally when you mix both things, I’m hooked. It’s just amazing to me that the 5Dmk2 has actual shots in the final movie. Since Reverie, a Vince Laforet short film, I’ve been hooked on the 5Dmk2, the colors are true and cinematic. I’ve been waiting a long time for the trailer to Red Tails and here it is.

Hope you enjoy the trailer, I surely did and can’t wait to watch the 5Dmk2 and of course the Sony F35 in action. Cheers!

NAB 2011

So, NAB 2011 is in full swing. So many new technologies being announced. Take the all new Sony F65, 4K,8K cine camera. This is so cool, an 8K, that’s 8768 x 2324 pixel single CMOS sensor. That’s impressive. Sony has been a leader in digital technology for years and now they are taking over with these new cameras such as the NEX-FS100 and PMW-F3 and NEX-VG10. The NEX-VG10 is a camera that has tons of potential, in my opinion, It lacks very important “Pro” features such as XLR audio inputs and Progressive (24p) framerates. Now, there’s rumors out there that say that the NEX-VG10 will be upgraded and will include XLR audio inputs and other “Pro” features, we’ll see there’s an announcement from NAB soon.

Recently, Twolight Films produced a series of music videos for the band Signa, a local Orange County Latin Rock band, and were nominated for best Latin Band of 2010. This is really exciting for them and us since we produced their hit, “Super Pablo Y Timoboy Signa Live”, a song about 2 superheroes. Signa is a super talented band and I wish them all the luck in the world. Twolight Films is scheduled to produce another music video in the upcoming months for their song, “Despierta Mi Fe”, Awaken my Faith.

OCWeekly is following the Orange County Music Awards closely and posted an article here,

And here’s the video!

People always ask me where I get my inspiration from. The answer isn’t a simple one, I watch movies, play video games, play with my kids, and watch hundreds and hundreds of videos. One that makes my hair on my back stand up is a studio called Barbecue Design. Their work is outstanding to say the least. Their vision in creating truly amazing eye popping visuals inspires me to keep learning and dreaming. Check out their reel here.

I thought this was really cool. Before soldiers are deployed overseas. HeartsApart.org provides our soon to be deployed servicemen and women with pictures of their spouses and children. The photographs are printed on waterproof and durable bi-folded cards, which fit securely in their uniform pocket. I think this is such a great thing to do because once these men and women reach their destination overseas, a photograph can be so meaningful. I’ve always the greatest respect for our servicemen and women and Heartsapart makes their memories last forever. Check out this video below.

Amazing video quality from the LG Optimus 2X

Pretty soon we will not use camcorders. LG’s new Optimus 2x shoots video at full HD 1080p. Wow! iPhone better catch up. This new LG Optimus 2x looks really good, it’s the first phone with dual core 1GHZ processor. This might be my next phone after I dump my iPhone. The zoom function on it is bad, but, come on, what do you expect, a RED ONE! Just think, you don’t have to take your camcorder to your son’s soccer game, just take out your new LG Optimus 2x and capture it in full HD!

Here’s some sample footage shot at 1080p.

OWN Network uses Red cameras and Canon DSLRs!

The new OWN channel, Oprah Winfrey Network, uses the latest in technology. Using the RED cameras for their “A” camera and Canon DSLRs for their “B” cameras for her Master Class series with Diane Sawyer. This is truly amazing in my opinion. It’s not like Oprah doesn’t have the money to buy whatever camera system she wants, it’s that these Canon DLSRs are so amazing on their quality and cost, that it just makes sense to use them. They are portable, light, have an amazing image quality and extremely versatile. Here at Twolight Films, we use both the Canon 7D and Canon 5D mk2 to produce Hi-Quality work. It it’s good enough for OWN, it’s good enough for Twolight! Check out this picture showing what looks like a Canon 70-200mm L lens.

My best friend came down from Arizona to show me his new Kessler Crane CineSlider. We wanted to shoot some tests but we decided why not shoot a mini film. It’s going to be a 2 episode short film with the first episode coming soon. We’re currently in post production and sound design. This is something I’ve always wanted to do and hopefully in 2011 we’ll work on more of these fun project. Here’s a quick screengrab from episode 1. Here’s an excerpt from the story.

Recently I watched this short film called, Modern Times. It’s an incredible, 2001 type film that explores space travel and green screen technology. It’s a visually stunning and well thought out film. This film had absolutely no budget! It was done with volunteers. It just goes to show you that if you have the imagination and will, you can accomplish anything with very little these days.
